But, what does that mean?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b5d596 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1b5d596\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In 1997, the Small Business Reauthorization\u00a0Act\u00a0ratified the HUBZone program into law\u00a0which was then\u00a0implemented by the Small Business Administration (SBA).\u00a0The SBA\u00a0continues to\u00a0regulate\u00a0many contracting assistance programs to help small businesses win federal contracts,\u00a0including\u00a0the HUBZone program. A\u00a0Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone)\u00a0is a distressed community that typically has a low median household income and\/or a high unemployment\u00a0rate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>As of right now, HUBZone\u00a0small businesses are required to locate their principle office in a HUBZone, be a small business, and be at least 51% owned by U.S. citizens.\u00a0\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-940\" src=\"https:\/\/globalsyseng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2041 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/globalsyseng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/hubzone-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globalsyseng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/hubzone-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/globalsyseng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/hubzone.jpg 724w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p><p>By locating\u00a0their\u00a0headquarters in a HUBZone, businesses are creating a more sustainable community by reinvesting in their neighborhoods,\u00a0in turn,\u00a0spurring\u00a0economic growth.\u00a0Syntelligent\u00a0Analytic Solutions is a HUBZone company from Page County, Virginia that was certified in 2012 with 13 employees. As of 2017, the company had employed 70 individuals, created 27 new jobs in the HUBZone, and spent close to $500,000 in their community annually. That\u2019s just one example of a successful HUBZone company and the positive impact that it has on the local community. Although change doesn\u2019t happen overnight, HUBZone companies are contributing to improving their neighborhood\u2019s economy in the long run.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Another requirement for the HUBZone program is to have at least 35% of employees live in a HUBZone. This creates jobs and increases employment in areas that may have a high unemployment rate. GSE has optimized this opportunity by reaching out to college students that live in\u00a0HUBZones\u00a0and\u00a0offering them\u00a0paid\u00a0internships that can be worked remotely. This provides jobs for college students in need of employment as well as exposure to\u00a0a positive\u00a0work environment, which opens many doors post-graduation. By participating in this program, GSE is not only supporting the Alexandria area that is local to\u00a0headquarters but\u00a0is\u00a0also supporting various\u00a0HUBZones\u00a0in numerous states.\u00a0<\/p><p>GSE values\u00a0giving back to your community. Our status as a HUBZone company is just one way that GSE showcases our dedication to bettering\u00a0the areas we live in. We are currently exploring\u00a0different ways\u00a0we can further our efforts to include implementing a corporate social responsibility program.\u00a0<\/p><p>Our status also\u00a0provides us with unique access to federal contracting mechanisms and preferential treatment allotted specifically for our socio-economic class.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>The federal government provides\u00a0preferential treatment to small businesses to help level the playing field between small and large businesses. One way they achieve this is by awarding various percentages of prime contracting dollars to different categories of small businesses.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2045 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/globalsyseng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/sba-outside-wall_750xx3264-1836-0-2-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globalsyseng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/sba-outside-wall_750xx3264-1836-0-2-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/globalsyseng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/sba-outside-wall_750xx3264-1836-0-2.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> The government set a goal to award 3% of all federal prime contracting dollars to HUBZone certified small businesses. Another way the government\u00a0provides assistance\u00a0is by limiting competition using set-aside contracts that are specifically for small businesses. In contract competitions that are full and open, HUBZone businesses are given a 10% price evaluation preference.\u00a0<\/p><p>In order to maintain HUBZone status, businesses are required to re-certify for the program (currently every 3 years). A business could re-certify for 100+ years and still maintain status\u00a0because\u00a0there is no limit\u00a0as long as\u00a0the business\u00a0continues to qualify.
